Breakout Connections – Work of the Church

BREAKOUT CONNECTIONS GROUP

DISCUSSION  QUESTIONS – Sunday, October 3, 2021

The primary purpose of our Breakout Connections Groups is to foster personal interactions and assist in developing relationships among the brethren. While there are many ways to achieve this, our desire for these groups is to do it through having spiritual conversations. Therefore, this is not a formal Bible study; it’s about getting to know one another by sharing our thoughts, insights and understandings, all centered around having a spiritual discussion.

VISITORS: We will all meet in the auditorium at 6:00 pm and then “break out” into our different groups, located throughout the building. You are welcome to attend any group of your choosing.

TONIGHT’S SPIRITUAL TOPIC: THE WORK OF THE CHURCH

There are three, distinct areas of the work of the church in which each and every Christian must be involved: evangelism, edification, and benevolence.

    • Regarding evangelism, the Bible teaches that we ALL need to be planting the seed so that the Kingdom of God will grow and produce a harvest of faithful souls (Matthew 13:1-23; Luke 8:4-15). This falls under our individual responsibility toward the “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15).
    • The Bible also teaches that we are to edify one another (Romans 14:19; 1 Thessalonians 5:11).
    • And, the Bible teaches that “as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith,” (Galatians 6:10). So, the practice of benevolence is another area of work that should be part of our daily walk (Matthew 25:31-40).

In our groups tonight, let’s discuss these areas from our own personal, individual perspective (as opposed to “what the ‘church’ needs to do, or should do” about these). Share your personal experiences and thoughts.

    • What are you, personally, doing to plant the seed among your family, friends, and community?
        • Or, what might you do to start planting the seed? What are some of the ideas, methods or means for planting the seed, as part of your own ministry?
        • Discuss why it’s important and how we might help each other to reach out to those who need to hear the Gospel.
        • Or, if you have experience in seed planting, please share your wisdom so that it may benefit others.
    • What does true, Biblical edification look like? What are you doing, or can do, to fulfill the command of edifying one another?
    • How might we manifest benevolence in our lives? As a Christian, what are you doing that displays your participation in this area of work of the church?
