HOW TO DEAL WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE

1. Refuse to be offended.

Proverbs 24:29 (NIV)

“When a fool is annoyed, he quickly lets it be known. Smart people will ignore an insult.”
Proverbs 12:16 (GN)

“Love overlooks the wrongs that others do.”

2. Refuse to gossip about them.

Proverbs 17:9 (ISV)

“Do not do wrong to repay a wrong, and do not insult to repay an insult. But repay with a blessing, because you yourselves were called to do this so that you might receive a blessing.”
1 Peter 3:9 (NCV)

3. Refuse to play their game.

(Example of Jesus) “The Pharisees plotted a way to trap him into saying something damaging. They sent their disciples, with a few of Herod’s followers mixed in…Jesus knew they were up to no good. He said, ‘Why are you playing these games with me? Why are you trying to trap me?’”
Matthew 22:15,18-19 (MSG)

“We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.”
2 Corinthians 4:2 (NLT)

“The troublemaker always has a clever plan and won’t look you in the eye, but the one who speaks correction honestly can be trusted to make peace.”
Proverbs 10:10 (TPT)

“Just as charcoal and wood keep a fire going, a quarrelsome person keeps an argument going.”
Proverbs 26:21 (NCV)

4. Refuse to cave in.

“Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil.”
Romans 14:16 (BSB)

“We have freedom, for Christ has set us free! We must always cherish this truth and firmly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past.”
Galatians 5:1 (TPT)

“Then the disciples came to him and asked, ‘Do you realize you offended the Pharisees by what you just said?’ Jesus replied, ‘Every plant not planted by my heavenly Father will be uprooted, so ignore them.’”
Matthew 15:12-14 (NLT)

5. Always take the high ground.

“Ask God to bless those who persecute you—yes, ask him to bless, not to curse.”
Romans 12:14 (GN)

“If someone has done you wrong, do not repay him with a wrong. Try to do what everyone considers to be good. Do everything possible on your part to live in peace with everybody.”
Romans 12:17-18 (GN)

“From evil doers come evil deeds”
1 Samuel 24:13 (NIV)

“Never let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good.”
Romans 12:21 (TPT)

“From evil doers come evil deeds”
1 Samuel 24:13 (NIV)

“When people’s lives please the Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them.”
Proverbs 16:7 (NLT)
