What I’d Say To A Young Leader
“You Asked for It” – Part 1 of 5
September 11/12, 2021

“Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.” Psalm 71:17-18 (NIV)

What I’d Say to an Older Generation…

  1. Love the next generation

“Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus…to timothy, my dear son…I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestor did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers…. I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.  I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.  2 Timothy 1:1-3 (NIV)

“For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”  2 Timothy 1:5-6(NIV)

Principle: Mentorship points to the God given S.H.A.P.E.

  1. Share your life

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you have learned it…” 2 Timothy 3:14(NIV)

Principle: Mentorship needs an open, authentic backdrop.
