Questioning Jesus – Week 1

Matthew 6:19-34

Question #1

Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying?

  • Matthew 6:27

Observations:

1. You shouldn’t worry because life is about way more than possessions.

  • Matthew 6:25

2. You shouldn’t worry because God is Provider – not you.

  • Matthew 6:26
  • Deuteronomy 2:7

3. You shouldn’t worry because you are of great value to God.

  • Matthew 6:26
  • 1 John 4:9-10

4. You shouldn’t worry because worry is a never-ending cycle of dissatisfaction.

  • Matthew 6:31-32

Application:

1. Seek God first and prioritize His kingdom over the things of this world.

Family Discussion Points:

  1. Why don’t we focus on the eternal (treasures in heaven, things of eternal significance) more often?
  2. What does it look like to have an eternal/kingdom mindset?
  3. How often do you stay up at night worrying about how YOU will provide a solution to the problems you’re facing in life?
  4. What does it look like to trust God as Provider?
  5. If God provides for birds and flowers, why do you struggle to think that God will provide for all of your needs? What does this say about your understanding of your own self-worth? Is that view biblically accurate? Explain.
  6. Scripture implies that non-believers crave and obsess over possessions/things, and never have enough. Do you ever find yourself falling into this trap? Can you testify to the exhaustion or dissatisfaction that such a lifestyle produces?
  7. What does it practically look like to seek God first, and prioritize His kingdom?
