The Seven Deadly Sins – Anger

Anger

Matthew 5:21-22

“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, you shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgement. But I tell you, that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to Judgement. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, Raca, is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, you fool! Will be in danger of the fire of hell.”

Psalms 37:8

“Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper. It only leads to harm.”

Proverbs 14:29

People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.

Ephesians 4:26

“And don’t sin by letting anger control you. Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.”

Proverbs 18:2

“Fools have no interest in understanding: They only want to air their own opinions.”

Is there a possibility that you are an angry person?

How do we fight anger?

1. the “you owe me debts”.

What’s the story that’s driving your anger?

2. before you react.

Psalms 4:4 “Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.”

We don’t make good decisions when we are angry.

3. your expectations.

It’s good to hope for the best but don’t expect it.

Anger happens when we expect the world to be different then it really is.

4. Forgive others as much as we forgive ourselves.

We tend to cut ourselves a lot of slack.

How should we handle those who hurt us?

Turning the other cheek, that’s hard!

1 Peter 2:23 “When they hurled insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”

Is there ever a time to be angry?

Jesus set the example on this one.

We should be righteously angry about a lot of things. Injustice, racism, human trafficking, any kind of injustice.

Is it okay to be angry with God?

The Bible is full of stories of people who loved God but got angry with God.

If we can’t express ourselves we can’t have a healthy relationship with God.

Do you have anger in your life today? God wants to help you.

Are you angry with God. God wants to help you get past the anger.
