DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Have you ever met someone famous? (If so, tell the story). Would you follow a famous person somewhere if they asked you?
  2. In Mark 1, people follow Jesus because they believe Jesus is King. Get 3 readers for the Gospel of Mark, Chapter One: Reader 1 (Mark 1:1-15), Reader 2 (Mark 1:16-31), and Reader 3 (Mark 1:32-45). What did you hear from the Scripture or from the message this past Sunday? Did anything surprise you from the Scripture or anything you didn’t understand? In your own words, sum up what message you think Mark is trying to get across from chapter one.
  3. In Mark 1:1, Mark claims that Jesus is the Messiah (Christ/Anointed One/King). How did people in Mark 1 show that they followed Jesus as King? Check out these examples:
    1. John the Baptist: Mark 1:7
    2. Peter & Andrew: Mark 1:18; Mark 1:30
    3. James & John: Mark 1:20
    4. Man with Leprosy: Mark 1:40
      1. Would you say you follow Jesus as King like these people? What would it look like for you to follow Jesus as King more?
  4. In Mark 1:24, someone believes Jesus is God, but are they a Christian? What makes a Christian? (need help? Check out Mark 1:15)
  5. Ask, “How can I pray for you?” for each person & pray.
