Know God Find Freedom

The last couple of weeks we have been studying how to overcome in life. I shared a passage of scripture from an exchange between the Apostle Paul and a young Pastor named Timothy. Paul is at the end of his life and makes a very bold and strong statement concerning his life.

2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NKJV)

6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

We have a mandate and a purpose as we live this life. Simply stated, we have a race to run that will accomplish God’s heart and produce fulfillment in us. As a Pastor, my responsibility is to equip you to run your race effectively and help you accomplish what God has called you to do which in return will produce fulfillment in you.

We do this by…

Meeting people where they are and we help them to Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose and Make a Difference.

Over the next few weeks we are going to examine the Word of God to determine the steps we can take to see this happen in our lives.

It begins with Knowing God…

Your freedom, your purpose and your fulfillment will always be determined by your relationship with God.

John 8:31-36 (ESV)

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Freedom begins with Knowing the Truth…

Jesus is the Truth

John 14:6 (NKJV)

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

2 Peter 1:2-3 (NKJV)

3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Luke 4:18 (NKJV)

18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,

Because He has anointed Me

To preach the gospel to the poor;

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

The truth is not merely information or facts…the truth is Jesus Christ. When we know Jesus as the Truth then we can know and walk in truth no matter what situation we are facing in life.

The Holy Spirit will guide you into Truth

John 14:15-17 (NKJV)

15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

John 16:13 (NKJV)

13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Knowing The Truth Protects us from Deception

1 Timothy 4:1-2

some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits

2 Timothy 3:13

Evil men and imposters will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived

Deception thrives in the absence of Truth. Truth overcomes deception.

We Know the Truth when we Live the Truth

1 John 2:3-6 (NKJV)

3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

James 1:22 (NKJV)

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

The Power of Truth comes from obedience to the Truth. Knowledge of the Truth is not enough.
