“WHAT IS THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN MINISTRY?” | Pastor John Danganan

June 13, 2021

34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak but must be in submission, as the law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35)

11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with propriety. (1 Timothy 2:11-15)

GOD’S IS GIVEN BOTH TO MEN AND WOMEN IN LIFE, AT  HOME, AND IN THE CHURCH.

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may  rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild  animals, and overall the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the  sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” (Gen. 1:26-28)

Women in the

  • Miriam was called ”the prophetess” (Exod. 15:20; Micah 6:4)
  • Deborah was a judge of Israel (Judges 4:4-5; 5:31).
  • Huldah the prophetess prophesied to the high priest and King Josiah (2 Kings  22:14-20).
  • Esther used royal influence to deliver Jews (Esther 4:13-17)

Women in the

  • Priscilla along with her husband Aquila were “fellow workers” with Paul (Acts  18:24-26; Rom. 16:35)
  • Philip’s daughters were called “prophetesses” (Acts 21:8-9).
  • Junia was part of the apostles (Rom. 16:7)
  • Phoebe was a deaconess at Cenchreae (Rom. 16:2)

28 And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men, and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. (Joel 2:28-29)

Women’s Role in Ministry

Complementarianism: God created male and female as complementary expressions of the image of God—with different roles and responsibilities

Egalitarianism: Equality in authority and responsibilities between genders.

33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people. 34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak but must be in submission, as the law says. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35)

6 They (false teachers) are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:6-7)
