 (1 Corinthians 2:1-2 Message) “You’ll remember, friends, that when I first came to you, I didn’t try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did–Jesus crucified.”

(John 21:25 NIV) Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

When it comes to Jesus performing miracles, it raises some tension:   

(John 2:1-3 NIV) “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, ‘They have no more wine.’”

 

WHEN RUNNING ON EMTPY…

We focus on instead of faith.

(John 2:3 NIV) When the wine was gone…

(2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV) “We live by faith, not by sight.”

We take matters into .

(Isaiah 30:15 NIV) “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.”

We exaggerate the .

(2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV) “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.”

(Philippians 4:4-8 NIV) Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: RejoiceLet your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things.

THE MIRACLE WORKER

 

(John 2:1-5 NIV) On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

4 “Dear woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

If you want to experience the miracle worker in your life…

  1. Do what to do.

(John 2:5 NIV) “His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’”

(Isaiah 55:8-9 LB) “This plan of mine is not what you would work out, neither are my thoughts the same as yours! For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours, and my thoughts than yours.”

  1. Focus on what God wants to do .

God is more interested in the content of our character than the comfort of our circumstances.

(John 2:6 NIV) “Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.”

(1 Peter 1:6-7 NIV) “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith–of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire–may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

  1. Believe the .

(John 2:8-9 NIV) “Then he told them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.’ They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.”

(Mark 10:27 NIV) Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”

  1. Expect the .

(John 2:10 NIV) “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

(Ephesians 3:20-21 NIV) Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
