SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

2. Take a look at Ephesians 5:3-5. Many in the American Church have become confused about what is and is not sin, specifically when it comes to sexual sin. What are some types of sexual immorality?

3. Ephesians 5:3-5 names specific sins of the heart/mind—sexual immorality, impurity, covetousness; and sins of the tongue—filthiness, foolish talk, crude joking. A. Why do you think these sins can be found in the church today? B. What is their consequence?

4. Read v 6-7. A. In light of verses 3-5, what sort of deceptions/empty words does our culture entice us with? Who and what are the proponents of this deceit? B. If we buy into words promoted by darkness, what effect do you think it has on us?

5. Read vv. 8-14. A. What is the significance of Paul saying we “were” darkness and “are” now light, as opposed to saying “in” darkness and light? B. When and how do we expose the deeds of darkness? C. From our earlier discussion, what are some ways that we might be “asleep” or dead? What ought we to do?

6. Considering we are to walk in the light, verses 15-17 say to “make the most of every opportunity” NIV. What are some opportunities that you encounter? How do you plan to make the most of them?

APPLICATION
Make a list of things you long for and/or things you spend your time on. Assess if these things are drawing you into the light or into darkness. Examine what your heart looks to for acceptance, entertainment, and what motivates your actions.
