DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- Name a time you had to “step forward” to do something and you weren’t sure what was going to happen but it turned out really well
- In Exodus 14, God calls His people to “step forward” during an impossibly difficult situation. Read Exodus 14:10-31. What did you hear from the Scripture or the message this past Sunday?
- Moses says that the Lord will fight for His people if they’re silent (Exodus 14:14). What do you think Moses meant by that? Have you ever practiced some sort of “silence before God” & if so what did that look like? Why might practicing silence help us serve God better?
- The Israelites complained to Moses that they wish they could go backwards in time and place to when they weren’t in such danger (Exodus 14:11-12). In response, God instructs the Israelites to “move forward” even when there is—at the time for them—no clear path forward to go (Exodus 14:15). Consider this idea allegorically: when it comes to your faith in Jesus, do you feel you are moving backwards or forwards & why?
- What propels you forward in your faith? Or to put it another way: what encourages you to trust more greatly in Jesus?
- Split up guys & girls. Go around and ask, “how can I pray for you?” And pray.
