Part 2: Overcoming Our Inadequacies!

April 25, 2021

[1] Our feelings of inadequacy are often a -issue!

  • We sometimes feel inadequate because we’re -focused!

Exodus 3:9,10 (TLB)

“(God said) “The wail of the people of Israel has risen to me in heaven, and I have seen the heavy tasks the Egyptians have oppressed them with. Now I’m going to send you to Pharaoh, to demand that he let you lead my people out of Egypt.’’’

“But I’m not the person for a job like that!” Moses exclaimed.

  • We sometimes feel inadequate because we’re -focused!

Judges 6:15 (NLT)

“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

2 Corinthians 10:12-13 (TLB)

They are comparing themselves with each other … what stupidity! 13 Our goal is to measure up to God’s plan for us,

Romans 12:6 (MSG)

Let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without … comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t.

2 Corinthians 3:5-6 (NASB)
Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, 6 who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant,

[2] God makes us adequate by  our inadequacies!

  • God uses our inadequacies as gifts for life-

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (MSG)

I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations (inadequacies). Satan’s angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! 8 At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, 9 and then he told me, My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness. Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness.

10 Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.

John 15:5 (TEV)

“I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me.”

  • God uses our inadequacies as opportunities for -training!

2 Corinthians 1:8-10 (MSG)
We don’t want you in the dark, friends, about how hard it was when all this came down on us in Asia province. It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it. 9 We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally—not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead! 10 And he did it, rescued us from certain doom. And he’ll do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need rescuing.

  • God uses our inadequacies to encourage -building!

Ephesians 4:16 (NLT)

He (Jesus) makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
