Ephesians 4:17-31 (NASB)

Sunday, April 25, 2021

Pastor Chris Laughlin

Introduction

Everyone around us desires to Reconnect with family, friends, and the community. In what may be remembered as the greatest year of isolation our society has ever seen, God gives us the answers we seek as to how and why we should live in community with others. God created us for connection. Not only an intimate connection with Him but with others as well. Through Scripture we will understand how to Reconnect towards meaningful relationships in our life.

April 4 – Reconnect by Remembering the sacrifice of Jesus.

April 11 – Reconnect by Restoring through forgiveness.

1. Barriers that keep us from each other

a. &

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Philippians 2:3-4

b.

Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 NASB

c.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 NASB

d.

But He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one is affluent does his life consist of his possessions.” Luke 12:15 NASB

Notes:

2. Barriers that keep us from God

a. Unconfessed & Sin

Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in Him. Anyone who continues to live in Him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know Him or understand who He is. 1 John 3:4-6

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts. 1 John 1:8-10

b. or

“Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.” John 14:27 NASB

c.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:5-8 NASB

d.

So then, be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:15-17 NASB

Notes:

3. Barriers are removed when we obey , even when it seems

“The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.” John 14:21 NASB

When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” Luke 5:4

Notes:

4. Barriers are removed when we accept God and others without notions

The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming – the One who is called Christ. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus told her, “I AM the Messiah!” John 4:25-26

Notes:

5. Barriers are removed when we roll the away and put on the new man

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in Me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in Me and believes in Me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” John 11:25-26

“Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.” John 11:39

Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!” John 11:43-44

Notes:

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB

… and to put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Ephesians 4:24 NASB

Closing: What are the barriers (stones) that you need to roll away from your relationship with God and others? ________________________
