Led By Fire – Stop The Excuses

Exodus 3:13-4:26

“He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.” —Benjamin Franklin

“Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.” ―George Washington Carver

As a general rule excuses come when we are focused on ourselves.

Excuses expose the self-centeredness in our lives.

God wants to to take us beyond ourselves to accomplish what we cannot on our own.

5 Excuses that we use often with the Lord

  1. I don’t have all the answers

“Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?””

Exodus 3:13 ESV

  1. What if they don’t believe me?

“Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’””

Exodus 4:1 ESV

Exodus 3:18-22 ESV

Exodus 4:2-4 ESV

  1. I don’t have what it takes.

“But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.””

Exodus 4:10 ESV

“Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.””

Exodus 4:11-12 ESV

“Now go; I will help you speak ….

Exodus 4:12 NIV

God empowers us at the point of our weakness.

  1. Others are more qualified

“But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.””

Exodus 4:13 -14 ESV

There is no one else who can do exactly what God has created you to do!

There’s comes a point when excuses become rebellion.

  1. It will cause friction in my family

Exodus 4:20-26 ESV

For the sake of peace we sometimes compromise our spiritual commitment and it leads to spiritual death.
