Holy Week: His Trial      

Luke 23:13-25

What does it mean to be a of Jesus today? 

    If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross,  and follow me”  Matt 16:24  

Sunday – a day of                         

Monday – a day of strong

Tuesday – a day of

Wednesday – a day of

Thursday – a day of fellowship &

Friday – a day of &    

 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Isaiah 53:3 (NIV)

 Jesus arrest was preceded by Judas’

    Then one of the Twelve–the one called Judas Iscariot–went to the chief priests [15] and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. Matthew 26:14-15

            Caiaphas, the high priest, presided over Jesus’ before the Sanhedrin   

    Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. Matthew 26:57 (NIV) 

Jesus’ answer about his upset them the most 

The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” Matthew 26:63 (NIV) 

       “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Matthew 26:64 (NIV) 

 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. Matthew 26:65 (NIV) 

Initially Pilate want to hand Jesus over to be crucified.       

    For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.” Luke 23:22 (NIV) 

  he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8  By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Isaiah 53:7-8 (NIV)

In the end, seeking to do the thing, Pilate turned Jesus over

    Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. Mark 15:15 (NIV) 

             The surrounding Jesus’ trial led to our salvation and freedom
