His Transfiguration
Luke 9:28-36
Main Thing to Know:
The more we look to Jesus the more we look like Jesus
1. Jesus revealed God’s glory
Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. (Matthew 17:1-2)
“transfigured” = “transformed”
God’s glory seen in:
His physical transformation
God, who . . . spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son . . . who [is] the brightness of His glory . . . (Hebrews 1:1-3)
His unwavering obedience
Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. (Hebrews 5:8)
His unique nature
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God . . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father (John 1:1, 14)
His substitute death
Why were Moses & Elijah there?
Moses: the Law
Elijah: the Prophets
What did they talk about?
“decease” (v. 31) = departure (Grk: “exodos”)
2. We reflect God’s glory
And the glory which You gave Me I have given them . . . (John 17:22)
