Pretty Ugly People – Part 3

“Good Deeds In A Naughty World”

Lessons from the Relationship of King Saul and David

“Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

“So, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in Power.” 1 Samuel 16:13

“A tranquil heart gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” Proverbs 14:30

Envy turned Saul into a Murderer… He slaughtered the village of Nob. 1 Samuel 22:19

  1. DON’T BE SURPRISED (when you try to live right and treat people right, and they turn around and treat you poorly)

“David was successful in everything he did, because the Lord was with him.”

1 Samuel 18:14

“Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you,

as though something strange were happening to you.” 1 Peter 4:12

  1. DON’T BE SPITEFUL

“Don’t repay evil with evil or insult with insult, rather with blessing, because this is what you were called to do so that you may inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:9

“Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” Romans 12:19

If David had killed Saul, he would have become like Saul. 1 Kings 24:7-13

  1. DON’T BECOME SOUR (by the bitterness of life)

There will be times in life when we get hurt, but we should not allow that to keep us from entering into friendships. We all need friends, and real friendships can’t happen until we take down the defense mechanisms.

  1. DON’T BE NAÏVE

I can’t be in the same room with you because I don’t trust you.

There may be people in your life who have lost your trust. That’s not your fault.

Remember this: It’s not loving to allow someone to sin against you.

  1. DON’T STOP

David never stopped honoring Saul, the Lord’s anointed.

David never considered personal vengeance against Saul.

David was a man after God’s own heart…and his good Deeds made a difference

“How far that little candle throws it’s beam! So shines a good deed in a naughty world.”

  • William Shakespeare (The Merchant of Venice)
