Philippians 4:4-7

  1. In all circumstances in the Lord. vs. 4-5

      Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. vs. 4a                                  

Joy in God is a duty of great consequence in the Christian life; and Christians need to be again and again called to it. If good men have not a continual feast, it is their own fault.” Matthew Henry Commentary  

 “Here’s the real-life, street-level issue: if you don’t keep the eyes of your heart focused on the paradise that is to come, you will try to turn this poor fallen world into the paradise it will never be.” Paul Tripp

     Let your reasonableness (gentleness) be known to everyone. vs. 4b           

     The Lord is at hand (near)… vs. 5

  1. In all circumstances give my to God. vs. 6

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. vs. 6

 “…envy causes you to question the goodness, faithfulness, and wisdom of God. Envy accuses God of not knowing what he’s doing or of not being faithful to what he’s promised to do. When you are convinced that a blessing that another person has ought to belong to you, you don’t just have a problem with that person, you have a problem with God. When you begin to question God’s goodness, you quit going to him for help. Why? Because you don’t seek the help of someone you’ve come to doubt.”

  1. In all circumstances experience the of God . vs. 7

In order to have the peace of God, you first make God.

…we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1

“Temperament has a great deal to do with joy; and circumstances have a great deal to do with it; but is not the mission of the Gospel to make us masters of temperament, and independent of circumstances?”                                                 Alexander MacLaren

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  vs. 7
