Luke 10:25-37

I. Inquiry (Luke 10:25-26)

A. Question (25)

B. Unequivocal (26)

-If you want an answer to life’s questions, you need to go to the autobiography of life’s Author.

II. Impossibility (Luke 10:27-28)

–Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

-Only , non-sinners can love God with a perfect sinless love and the bad news is: there’s not a person who has ever lived or ever will live who can do this because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

-The impossibility that Jesus was pointing out here  was that this cannot be done without Jesus Himself.

-Galatians 3:24, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”

-Jesus was pointing this man to his need for Jesus alone for a righteous standing before God. 

III. (Luke 10:29)

-This man was unwilling to submit himself to a helpless admission of utter dependence upon Jesus for righteousness and saw this as an opportunity to find a self-righteous loophole in the Law of God.

-He was so predisposed to a self-reliance that he blew right past the Gospel of Jesus that would truly gain him eternal life!

IV. (Luke 10:30-35)

3 common hindrances to being a Jesus-minded kind of neighbor to others:

A. Legalism (30-32)

B. Conflict (33)

C. Inconvenience (34-35)

V. (Luke 10:36-37)

-“If we are Christians through faith in the finished work of Christ, we will live like that Samaritan.”

-The invitation of Jesus through this parable is two-fold:

1. Accept by faith what Jesus has done on your behalf to secure you in right standing before your Holy God.

2. Embrace power to love like He wants you to instead of trying to do it or understand it on your own.
