What to Do When Life Seems Hopeless

 Ruth 1:1-18

1. We try to run from our . vs. 1-5

In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. vs. 1

“The majority of us begin with the bigger problems outside and forget the inside. A man has to learn the plague of his own heart, before his own problems can be resolved.”

                                           Oswald Chambers, Shadow of Agony

2. We try to hide our . vs. 6-14

Then she arose with her daughters-in-law to return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the fields of Moab that the Lord had visited his people and given them food.  vs. 6

“Naomi’s decision was right but her motive was wrong. She was still interested primarily in food, not in fellowship with God. You don’t hear her confessing her sins to God and asking Him to forgive her. She was returning to her land but not too her Lord.”

                                                                      Warren Wiersbe

3. We can turn to our . vs. 15-18

But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. vs.16

Hesed – God’s loyalty to His people.
