Galatians 4:1-7

  1. Remember what you . (vs. 1-3)

I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. v. 1-2

In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. v. 3

“Enslavement to non-gods that we treat like gods – that’s the state of every single person apart from being adopted by God.” – Todd Wilson

  1. Remember what you have . (vs. 4-7)
  • Jesus our salvation

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. v. 4-5

  • The Holy Spirit our salvation

And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. v. 6-7

“The battle of the Christian life is to bring your own heart into alignment with Christ’s, that is, getting up each morning and replacing your natural orphan mind-set with a mind-set of full and free adoption into the family of God through the work of Christ your older brother, who loved you and gave himself for you out of the overflowing fullness of his gracious heart.” – Dane Ortlund
