Galatians 6:11-18

Final Instructions

“ The heart’s desire to have some ultimate source of love and meaning cannot be erased or eliminated—it is how we are created. So an ultimate love cannot be displaced—it can only be replaced with a more powerful one.” — Tim Keller, Hope in Times of Fear

1. The will never save. (vs. 11-12)

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.” Matthew 23:25-26

2. We boast in the , not our accomplishments. (vs. 13-15)

“Whenever two wills cross, somebody has to die. Life requires countless ‘little’ deaths—occasions when we are given the chance to say no to self and yes to God. A seed falls to the dark earth and dies. Out of that death comes multiplied life. As St. Francis prayed, ‘It is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.’ It takes faith to believe this…A failure of faith here leads certainly to resentment and then to depression. The destruction will go on and on.” —Elizabeth Elliot

3. Final words…continue to with Christ. (vs. 16-18)
