A New Look at a New Year

2 Peter 1:3-4

3 Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God. We have these things because we know him. Jesus chose us by his glory and goodness, 4 through which he also gave us the very great and rich gifts that he promised us. With these gifts you can share in being like God. And so you will escape the ruin that comes to people in the world because of the evil things they want. 2 Peter 1:3-4 ERV

1. God gives me the for living. vs. 3

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness… vs. 3

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:4

 “You can use your background as an excuse for present behavior only until you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. After that you have a new power within you that is able to change your conduct.”

2. God gives me the for living. vs. 4

Rather than MAKING A PROMISE to God,

I should focus on the PROMISES GOD HAS MADE to me!

…he has granted to us his precious and very great promises… vs. 4

3. God allows me to from my sinful desires. vs. 4

…having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. vs. 4   

“Sin is what you do when your heart is not satisfied with God. We sin because it holds out some promise of happiness.” John Piper

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
