Get In On the Game The Church That Shines!

February 15, 2020 / 2:

The world need to see Christians that really represent Jesus Christ. That is only going to happen as we surrender to Him daily and allow His Holy Spirit to control us.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Teach us today how to get into the game.

Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so others will see You.

Help us to love the lost and reach them for Christ.

Help us to love our brothers and sisters, Your sons and daughters.

Teach us to love like You love, so others will know we are Your disciples.

When the first church met together the Bible tells us exactly what they did if we follow their example. We can impact our world just as they did theirs.

Gladly the Word – v. 41

They heard the Gospel and got saved

You need to be saved

They heard what Peter taught about being disciples of Christ and they wanted to identify with them

1 Thessalonians 1:6, “And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.”

Get – v. 41

Baptism is not salvation

It has nothing to do with salvation

1 Corinthians 1:17, “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”

Baptism identifies you

With Christ

With the church – you trust

Join the church you trust

There is no perfect church

Peter was the pastor of this church

They were joining an imperfect church

Acts 2:41, 47, “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

Go to and Listen to the – v. 42

God gave the local church pastors and teachers

Ephesians 4:11-12, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”

2 Timothy 4:2-3, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”

Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Go to Church and the Lord’s Supper – (Breaking of Bread) – v. 42

We remember His death

We purify ourselves (Confess sin)

We serve one another

1 Corinthians 11:24-26, “And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

 Go to Church and – v. 42

Bow and pray together

At the end of each message ask God to help you apply His Word

If you’re not saved ask God to save you

Pray for your brothers and sister’s needs – Connection Classes

Pray for your church

Turn in your prayer cards at the end of the service so we can pray for you

James 5:16, “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Go to Church and – vv. 44-45

They sold possession

They gave to meet the needs of others

They gave to finance the ministry

God uses people who give

More next week

Luke 6:38, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Go to Church and – v. 46

They met each other’s needs

They served each other

Galatians 5:13, “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”

Go to Church and – v. 47

They got close and met form house to house

They were glad

They learned to praise

This is why we sing in church

This is why we sing new and old songs.

Ephesians 5:18-19, “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”

This helps you think about what you are singing about
