Leadership Rights

“He must become great; I must become less.”  John 3:30

When you sign up to lead, your change.

As your increases, your decrease.

As leaders, we certain rights in order to .

1. You give up your right to .

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others.”  Philippians 2:3-4

2. You give up the right to and .

“Do all things without grumbling or questioning.”  Philippians 2:14

“Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.”  1 Peter 4:9

“Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose”  Philippians 4:2

  • Not just pouting and complaining to leadership, but also to your friends.

3. You give up the right to have .

“Do all things without grumbling or questioning.”  Philippians 2:14

• Events, Small Group, TNW, Leaders’ Meetings, Retreats
• Saying to one thing often means say to another.

4. You give up the right to .

“Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.  For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?  So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge.  When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.”  1 Corinthians 8:9-12

• As leaders, our job is now to guard weaker followers who might not understand moderation or the reason behind our choices.

  • (for most of us, this probably looks like tithing to Chi Alpha if that’s where we’re being poured into)

Leaning Into Our Season

“The Ryan Barber Commandment”

Ryan Barber went ice skating shirtless.  He didn’t dress for the appropriate season.  We’ve been in many different seasons as DC Chi Alpha (financially, worship settings, differing needs and events, etc.)

• We are going to lean into the season we’re in, and the characteristics, logistics, and expectations might change depending on the season.
