What Do YOU Want?
April 25, 2021 / Christian World ChurchYou in Five Years – 1 “What Do You Want?”
Where do YOU want to be in 5 years?
Most of us OVERestimate what we can do in the SHORT term – and UNDERestimate what we can do over the LONG term.
God doesn’t need great starters. He’s looking for great finishers.
Mark 13:13 – Battle is not given to the strong or the race won by the swift; but the one who finishes, who endures to the end, will be saved.
Revelation 3:2 – Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God.
If you’re not dead, He’s not done.
Romans 13:11-14 (Msg) – (11) But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. (12) The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. (13) We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. (14) Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!
1. Time waits for no man
Psalm 39:5 (NKJV) – Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You; certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.
Psalm 90:10, 12 (NLT) – (10) Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away. (12) Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.
2. Future You is Simply an Exaggerated Version of Current You
Proverbs 11:27 – Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.
Who you are today seeps into the cracks of your soul / emotions, hardening and forming your character.
Proverbs 26:27 – Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will find it rolling back upon him.
Time doesn’t change who you are. It reveals who you are and makes you more of who you are.
Isaiah 30:21 – Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
3. If You Don’t Like What You’re Getting, You Can Change What You’re Doing.
“The evening of life is determined by the morning of it.”
Matthew 25:23 – “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things…”
4. Ongoing Consistency is Much More Important Than Short-term Intensity
What’s true of your skin is also true of your soul.
Days of Prayer and Fasting and Generosity
Matthew 6:
7 – But when ye pray…
16 – Moreover when ye fast…
3 – But when ye give…
We CANNOT fulfill our purpose as a church unless we PRAY, FAST, and GIVE.
