Warrior Pt. 5 “The Name-Callers”

January 31, 2021

What it looks like to be a man or woman warrior of God.

Matthew 16:17-19 The Message

17-18 Jesus came back, “God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn’t get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am. And now I’m going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out.

Genesis 3:11-12

John 1:45-49

Warriors use their words to restore identity and change someone’s destiny.

Start talking.

  • Did you have a nickname growing up? What was it? Did you like it? If no, why not?
  • As a kid, were you more of a name-caller, or were you more on the receiving end of name-callers?

Start thinking.

  • Why do you think words are so powerful and impact our lives immeasurably for good or for bad?

Start sharing.

  • What responsibility do you feel to use your words carefully to help build up instead of tear down those you live or do life with?
  • Read Matthew 16:17-19 The Message and John 1:45-49 NLT. How did Jesus use his word to impact Peter and Nathaniel in positive, life-changing ways?

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

  • Stop and take time to share prayer requests and pray for one another.

Start doing.

  • Be a name-caller like Jesus was. Who can you begin name-calling in a way that brings them life and restores their identity in Jesus?
  • Ex. You are a warrior! You are a disciple. You are a masterpiece! You are salt and light! You are a child of God.
