Proverbs 19:17

Proverbs 21:13

1 John 3:17

If you want to know who is truly blessed by God, don’t look at how much they but how much they

LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION

Start talking.

  • Proverbs 22:2,9 NLT says, “The rich and poor have this in common: The Lord made them both. Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor.” What other things do the “haves” and the “have nots,” the poor and the rich, all have in common?

Start thinking.

  • What do you think are some of the biggest challenges those who have a little or a lot less than others face?
  • What do you think about this statement and in what ways do you agree or have a thought to add to it?
    • If you want to know who is truly blessed by God, don’t look at how much they have but how much they give away.

Start sharing.

  • If you’ve ever had a season, or are in one right now, where you have very little compared to those around you, what are some of the emotional, spiritual, and financial challenges facing you?
  • Read and discuss
    • Proverbs 19:17 NLT – If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord— and he will repay you!
  • What do you think it means to “lend to the Lord”?
  • Read and discuss
    • Proverbs 21:13 NLT – Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need.
  • These are tough words. What do you think God is trying to help us understand?

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

  • Pray for those in the group who have needs. Pray for those around the world who are going without. Pray that we and all other Christians will be as generous with the poor as God has been with us.

Start doing.

  • Be honest with yourself. Would others consider you a generous person? When is the last time you’ve regularly given to the less fortunate? Pray and ask God to help you and show you how you can begin becoming a person who’s known for lavish generosity towards others.
