Lead: Steering Clear of Causing Others to Stumble

November 7, 2021 / Deuteronomy 27:9-10 Deuteronomy 27:18

ORPHAN SUNDAY: Things to Pray…

  • God to draw close to & comfort them
  • Protection…physically & emotionally
  • That they would feel loved where they are
  • That they would thrive despite their circumstances
  • That God would orchestrate a way beyond where they are

Matthew 18:6-7If anyone causes one of these little ones —those who believe in me— to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!

Deuteronomy 27:9-10 – 9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the Lord your God. 10 Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”

Deuteronomy 27:18 – Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”

1 Corinthians 10:23-28, 31-3323 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24 No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.  25 Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26 for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”  27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience. 31 …whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— 33 even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.
