Never Alone

December 5, 2021 / John 14:15-20

TODAY’S FOCUS: Even as followers of Jesus, we have times where we feel alone. Like we are facing life all on our own. Today’s message is a reminder that as children of God filled with the Holy Spirit, we are never alone.

TWO DEFINITIONS FOR ALONE

  • “Having no one else present”
  • “On one’s own”

WHAT WE OFTEN BELIEVE WHEN WE ARE ALONE

  • “No one understands what I am
  • “I have to this all on my own”

Different ways we can feel alone:

and mourning the death of a person, relationship, hope, or dream

and striving to heal from the hurt others have caused you

and feeling like a prisoner to a sin-struggle or inner turmoil

and navigating a difficult and unfamiliar season

Matthew 1:23 – Jesus is Immanuel, “God With Us”

Hebrews 5:1 – The purpose of the High Priest (Jesus is our High Priest)

Hebrews 4:15 – Because Jesus was human, He understands our weaknesses

Hebrews 4:16 – Because Jesus is God, He can minister mercy and grace to us.

How can we connect with Jesus?

Through the within us

TEXT: John 14:15-20

“If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. 19 Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. 20 When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
