Biblical Comparisons of the Christian Life to a Race
1 Corinthians 9:23-25
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2 keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.
Jesus encouraged Peter: Luke 22:31-32
You may not have perfect form, but you can have perfect perseverance!
“… I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
Yet, instead of focusing on following Jesus, Peter turned around and saw John, then asked; What about him?
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

Specifically, Jesus’ answer to Peter was: “What is that to you, YOU MUST FOLLOW ME!
