Turning From GraceJanuary 17, 2021
“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; (gospel) but there are some who trouble you and want to PERVERT THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST.”
The background of Paul’s letter to Galatians is found in Acts 13
After receiving salvation by grace through Christ, Judaizers came. These were people who wanted these new converts to Christ to keep the Jewish laws. In doing so the “perverted the gospel” (Galatians 1:7)
Pauls stern warning was that if we, or even an angel from heaven, preaches ANY OTHER GOSPEL that what they had preached (about Jesus’s death for our sins) let him be “accursed”. That was a word that meant to be destined to be destroyed in the fire – a reference to hell. Then he repeated that statement.
Church hymns and gospel songs remind us of our only hope being in Jesus by songs such as:
“What Can Wash Away My Sin, Nothing But The Blood of Jesus”
and “My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less, Than Jesus’ Blood and Righteousness”.
- Acts 4:12 NIV 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
- John 14:6 NIV 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
