Being Used By God: Resisting Temptation and Growing in Grace
January 19, 2020
Everyone has a
1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able [to stand up under], but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
Galatians 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”
Some Stumbling Blocks that Keep Us From Pleasing Jesus.
First: A Desire to be wealthy
2 Timothy 2:2-4
“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.”
Some Stumbling Blocks to Pleasing Jesus.
The desire to be wealthy.
1 Timothy 6:10
For the of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
2 Timothy 4:1-10
for Demas has forsaken me, having this world, and has departed for Thessalonica
Second powerful temptation may be that of abuse.
Third: Words you use: Isaiah was convicted because of the words he used.
5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
Proverbs 4:23-24 (NIV)
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of ; keep talk far from your lips.
Fourth Stumbling Block is or Pride.
His master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me …except you, because you are his wife.
1 John 2:16 (NASB)
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but comes before honor.
A Fifth Stumbling block that Joseph handled better than most men: Sexual Temptations.
Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he to go to bed with her or even be with her.
My son, if sinners entice you, do not yield to them.
Proverbs 5:8 refers to going to an adulteress.
Keep to a path far from her,
do not go near the door of her house,
lest you lose your to others
and your to one who is cruel,
“Then one day it happened.”
Do you guard your life?
If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.
If you struggle with what you look at it is better to have to use an encyclopedia than to look on the internet.
It’s the place you hold in Christ, not the place that holds your body that makes you to God.
When it came to difficult things in life Josephs answer was “I can not but God .”
God is the BEST when it comes to pulling off the .
