Pursuing God – Lesson 2

June 14, 2020

Genesis 6:5–9 ESV “6:5 ¶ The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6:6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.

6:7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

6:8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

6:9 ¶ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.”

Luke 17:26–27 ESV “17:26 Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.

17:27 They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.”

Deuteronomy 4:29 ESV “But from there you will seek the LORD your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Proverbs 8:17 ESV “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.”

Genesis 5:21–23 ESV “5:21 ¶ When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah.

5:22 Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters.

5:23 Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years.”

How do I ?

Matthew 16:24–28 ESV “16:24 ¶ Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

16:25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

16:28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.””

Three things here:

1.  Deny

2.  Take

3.  Follow

I find God when I .

Romans 12:1–2 ESV “12:1 ¶ I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

I find God when I .

Philippians 3:7–10 ESV “3:7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

3:9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—

3:10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,”

I find God when I .

Galatians 2:20 ESV “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Notice the difference between the two:

Matthew 19:16–22

Luke 19:1-10

A person cannot God until he !

Where do I begin?  Where do I continue?

1.  Begins with a .

2.  Continues with .
