Stories that Transform:    Lost Sheep

Luke 15:1-7

There are so many things about Jesus

He was a great

Jesus told stories to make a

Context:    Jesus’ ministry was appealing to

 Now the tax collectors and “sinners” were all gathering around to hear him. Luke 15:1 (NIV)

But the religious leaders weren’t

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Luke 15:2     (NIV)

Jesus tell a story about a  sheep

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? Luke 15:4 (NIV)

 Shepherd leaves the 99 to search for the lost sheep

 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6  and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ Luke 15:5-6 (NIV)

God for lost sheep

 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.    Luke 15:7 (NIV)

Are there many lost ?

 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:11 (NIV)

Missional Imagination:     Lord what can I do to ?     

God wants us to join His mission to find lost sheep.
