I Believe……in Jesus Christ,  His Only Son,  Our Lord

                                                                  Philippians 2:5-11

Today many people don’t know what to believe

Now is a good time to look back into our Christian faith heritage

Creed from “Credo” means “I believe

“But what about you?” “Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:15 (NIV)

I believe…. in Jesus Christ, His only Son,  our Lord”

The Christian faith is all about Jesus

1.   He is the Savior               Jesus means “God saves”

“you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (NIV)

2.    He is the Christ.                  “Anointed One”   “Messiah”

God planned to bring salvation to the world through Jesus Christ

The Old Testament contains many promises of His coming

He is the One sent from God to bring God to us and to bring us to God

3.     He is God’s only Son

“I and the Father are one”  John 10:30 (NIV)

One God eternally existing in three divine Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit

C.S. Lewis explains our options in “Mere Christianity”

4.     He is our Lord         “Kurios”  =  “absolute ruler”

if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (NIV)

Christians steadfastly refused to say “Caesar is Lord”

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2:10-11 (NIV)

Because of His resurrection, those first Christians boldly declared Jesus is Lord
