“Dealing with Anger”
Ephesians 4:26-27
In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you’re still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” Eph 4:26-27 (NIV)
Four Principles in dealing with anger:
- Admit you are angry
“Go ahead and be angry. You do well to be angry—but don’t use your anger as fuel for revenge” Ephesians 4:26 (Msg)
- Understand your anger
“Be angry but do not sin” Ephes. 4:26 (NAB)
We get angry when we are –
- hurt
- frustrated
- insecure
Deal with it immediately
“Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry” Eph 4:26 (NIV)
- Control your anger
– Stop – think before you speak!
“A quick tempered man does foolish things.” Proverbs 14:17
“A gentle answer turns away wrath but harsh words stir up anger.” Prov 15:1
“A fool gives full vent to his anger but a wise man keeps himself under control.” Prov 29:11
– Look – at the situation from God’s point of view
“A fool shows his annoyance at once but a prudent man overlooks an insult.” Prov 12:16
“A man’s wisdom gives him patience. It is his glory to overlook an offense.” Prov 19:11
– Listen – to the needs and hurts behind the situation
“Starting a quarrel is like breaking a dam. So drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.” Prov 17:14.
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” James 1:19
Jesus is the One who understands and helps us deal with our anger
