Acts – Proclaim the Word

May 30, 2021

Acts 13:1-12

Big Idea: God’s is orchestrated through the proclamation of His

1. the Word.

Julius Schniewind, “By its very nature, declaring the unique historical reality of Jesus, this word must also be instruction, admonition and tradition. But it is teaching which participates in the eschatological and dramatic character of the message.”

Three Components of Proclamation:
Announcing the person and work of Jesus.
Calling hearers to walk in way of Jesus
With an appropriate urgency.

Joshua 1:8

2. in the Word.

Crooked Paths:

  1. Path of  “What can I get?” Focus on what I get from God.
  2. Path of  “How can it stay the same?” Focus on the routine, not the transformation.
  3. Path of  “How can it be easier?” Focus on Christ until the cost is too high or too all consuming or too pervasive.
  4. Path of  “What do I have to do?” Focus on my righteousness instead of the righteousness of Christ.
  5. Path of  “How can the Gospel be exclusive?” Focus on being inclusive instead of the message of Christ.
  6. Path of  “Shouldn’t my life be defined by what works for me?” Focus on my desires instead of the self denial of Christ

3. by the Word.
