Encounter Jesus Pt 5 – The Government Official’s Family

April 10, 2022   /   New City Church

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  John 1:14 NASB

Glory:  The absolute perfect inward personal excellence of Christ that belongs only to him as the supreme majesty and ruler.

What keeps us from encountering Jesus’ glory?

What do we learn when we encounter Jesus’ glory?

What should our response be when we encounter Jesus’ glory?

“At the end of two days Jesus went onto Galilee.”  John 4:43 NLT

“He himself had said that a prophet is not honored in his hometown.” John 4:44 NLT

Our pride of attachment to someone special.

Our sense of entitlement.

“Yet the Galileans welcomed him, for they had been in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration and had seen everything that he did there.”  John 4:45 NLT

An over-familiarity with Jesus.

As they traveled through Galilee they came to Cana, where he had turned the water into wine.  There was a government official in nearby Capernaum whose son was very sick.  When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son who was about to die.”  John 4:46-47 NLT

What do we learn when we encounter Jesus’ glory?

“Jesus asked, ‘Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?’”

John 4:48 NLT

“Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him.  But Jesus didn’t trust them, because knew all about people.  No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.”

John 2:23-25 NLT

“The official pleaded, ‘Lord please come now before my little boy dies.’”  John 4:49 NLT

“Then Jesus told him, ‘Go back home. Your son will live!’  And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.”  John 4:50 NLT

Jesus is gracious.

“While the man was on his way home, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and well.” John 4:51 NLT

“He asked them when the boy had begun to get better, and they replied, ‘Yesterday at one o’clock his fever suddenly disappeared!’”  John 4:51-52 NLT

 Jesus is powerful.

‘Go back home. Your son will live!’

“He asked them when the boy had begun to get better, and they replied, ‘Yesterday at one o’clock his fever suddenly disappeared!’”  John 4:51-52 NLT

“Then the father realized that that was the very time Jesus told him, ‘Your son will live.’  And he and his entire house believed in Jesus.’”  John 4:53 NLT

What should our response be when we encounter Jesus’ glory?

“This was the second miraculous sign Jesus did in Galilee after coming from Judea.” John 4:54

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  John 1:14 NASB
