Be Still Part 3 – Mission & Justice

January 16, 2022   /   New City Church

Be Still and know that I am God.”  Psalm 46:10 NLT

A quiet time is simply a daily time that we set aside to specifically tune into God through prayer, Bible reading, and reflection.

What happens after our quiet times?

You go find ways to fulfil the Great Commission with the Great Commandment.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”  Luke 4:18-19 NLT

“So, He said to them, ‘This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.’”

Mark 9:29 NKJV

“No, this is the type of fasting that I want:  free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you.  Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people.”  Isaiah 58:6 NLT

“Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless.  Give clothes to those that need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.”

Isaiah 58:7 NLT

“Then your salvation will come like the dawn and your wounds will quickly heal.  Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.”  Isaiah 58:8 NLT

“Learn to do right; seek justice.  Defend the oppressed.  Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”  Isaiah 1:17 NIV

“Then you will call, the Lord will answer, ‘Yes, I am here.’ He will quickly reply.  “Remove the heavy yoke of oppression.  Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!”  Isaiah 58:9 NLT

’Yes, I am here’

“Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble.  Then your light will shine out from the darkness.  And the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.”              Isaiah 58:10 NLT

“Then the righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you?  Or thirsty and give you something to drink?  Or a stranger and show you hospitality?  Or naked and give you clothing?  When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’”  Matthew 25:37-39 NLT

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.’”  Matthew 25:40 NLT

“The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever- flowing spring.”  Isaiah 58:11 NLT

“Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities.  Then you will be known as the rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.”  Isaiah 58:12 NLT

  1. What mission or area of injustice are you most moved by?
  2. Are you willing to fast this week about that?
  3. What simple step could you take this week?
