Tuned-In
“Follow”
Luke 5.1-11 (NLT)
Blake Hanson

John 12.26 (NLT) Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

Luke 5.1–11 (NLT) One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say   so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.

3 qualities needed to be a follower of Jesus…

  1. Let your of Jesus be larger than your awe of .

Luke 5.8 (NLT) When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me. I am a sinful man.”

John 21.7 (NLT) Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was  the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.

  1. Hold a commitment to Jesus &

Luke 12.11–12 (NLT) “And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what to say,  for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.”

Luke 5.10 (NLT) His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”

  1. anything, so you can have everything.

Luke 5.11 (ESV) And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

“If I know something to be true, am I prepared to follow it even though it is contrary to what I want? WIll I follow if it means being laughed at by a friend or foe, or if it means personal financial loss or some kind of hardship?” Eric Lidell

OUR HOPE FOR YOU:

  1. You become a follower of Jesus.
  2. You explore how well you’re allowing Him to lead in your life.
