Title: Jesus is… The Good Shepherd
Father’s Day 2021
Date:
6/20/2021

Speaker: Pastor Tim

(1 Corinthians 2:1-2 Message) “You’ll remember, friends, that when I first came to you, I didn’t try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did–Jesus crucified.”

MY GOOD SHEPHERD

(John 10:10-11a NIV) “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come thatthey may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd.”

(Psalm 100:3 NIV) “Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; weare his people, the sheep of his pasture.”

(1 Peter 5:2-4 NIV) “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving asoverseers–not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown ofglory that will never fade away.”

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.]
My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

1. The Shepherd .

(Palm 23:2 NLT) He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

(Philippians 4:18-20 NIV) I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.  20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

2. The Shepherd .

(Psalm 23:3a NIV) “…he restores my soul.”

(John 14:27) “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

3. The Shepherd .

(John 10:3-5 NIV) “The sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out… his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

(Psalm 23:3 NLT) He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

4. The Shepherd .

(John 10:14-15 NLT) I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So, I sacrifice my life for the sheep.

(2 Timothy 4:16-17 NIV) “No one came to my support, but everyone deserted me…but the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength.”

(Psalm 23:4 NLT) Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.

(Luke 15:1-6 NIV) Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?  And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoicewith me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

5. The Shepherd .

(Psalm 23:4 NLT) Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

(Exodus 15:3 NIV) The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.

(John 10:11 NIV) “The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

6. The Shepherd .

(Psalm 23:5-6 NLT) You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

(Numbers 6:22-27 NLT) Then the LORD said to Moses, 23“Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing:
24 ‘May the LORD bless you and protect you.
25 May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you.
26 May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace.’
27 Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”

(Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV) “May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
