Introduction

“Pursuing God’s Purpose Provides Our Purpose”

Key Verse

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

              1. We find and fulfill our purpose when we seek God’s Kingdom first

  • Meeting with HimMark 1:35 “And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he (Jesus) departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” – Daily quiet time of reading/studying the word and praying (morning, midday break, evening shut off of electronics)

  • Worshipping toward Him   Luke 4:16 “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day…”  – make every effort to attend in person – or be engaged if watching livestream) – the idea of attending to worship and to the word just when convenient was foreign to Jesus and the disciples
  • Evangelizing and discipling for Him  Matthew 28:18 “Go and make disciples…” – Evangelism being the first step in the process of our discipling – our children, grandchildren, a key person in our life (be intentional training times on be informal life lesson, be invitational people to “come and see” by asking them to come to church or read the Gospel of John

  • Tithing to Him Matthew 6:2,3; 23:23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.” – reflects our heart of acknowledging that all belongs to God, and I am just a steward/manager

  • Caring through Him → Mark 4:38-39 “…they woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” – Be the hands and feet for the Lord as we look for, pray for, and help meet the needs of people in your family and in your sphere of influence; help bring peace and calm to their life

            2. We find and fulfill our purpose when we seek God’s Righteousness first

  • Have Christ’s righteousness → 2 Corinthians 5:21 (Matthew 3:15)

  • Hunger and thirst for righteousness Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who …”
