When God is Leading, Victory Comes (Joshua 3-5)

August 22, 2021 / Joshua 3-5:

Icebreaker: What is something you are very competitive at? What makes you competitive at this?

Read Joshua 3

Discuss:

  • What reason does God give the people for staying behind the ark so far? What image does this portray when it comes to the Lords place on the journey?

Read Joshua 4

  • Highlighting verse 6 and verses 21-24, what is the significance of the stones? Why do the people need this reminder?
  • What are some “stones” you have set up (or should set up) as markers of God’s faithfulness in your journey?

Read Joshua 5

  • What is the significance of circumcision in the Old Testament?

(For reference, read Genesis 17:10-14 & Deuteronomy 30:5-6)

  • What application can be found in the act of circumcision as we think about the new covenant in Christ?

(For reference, read Colossians 2:6-15)

Application:

– What areas of your life are you most prone to try and lead the journey or navigate the terrain on your own?

  • In these areas, where have you seen God be faithful in the past?
  • What can you do today, to follow God’s leading towards His promises?

Prayer:

Use the application section above as an outline for your prayer time. Begin your time by acknowledging and praising the Lord for His faithfulness over the years of your life. Follow that by praying for His will in your life rather than your own. Use this time to confess sins of selfishness or pride that have caused you to become internally focused. At the end, ask the Lord to open your eyes to His leading and for your willingness to follow.
