Impossible Strategy, Bigger God (Joshua 6)

August 29, 2021

Icebreaker: When is it most challenging for you to view God as sovereign?

Read Joshua 5:13-6:2

  • What stands out as significant when it comes to Joshua’s visit, the sealed gates, and the Lords statement to Joshua in verse 2? (Read Romans 8:31-39 to add to your discussion.)

Read Joshua 6:3-21

  • Discuss why God would use this method for bringing the nation of Jericho to destruction.
  • In 6:21 it highlights the destruction of everyone and everything. Many people wrestle with how a good God could commas this to happen. How do we engage with this wrestling biblically? (For reference, read Genesis 15:16 & 2 Peter 3:9-10)

Application

  • Pastor Matt shared that God often uses that which seems impossible in order that He will get the glory. Where does this reality become challenging when it comes to our own human nature?
  • Read 1 Corinthians 1:27-31- Consider how the story of Jericho has implications when it comes to God’s victory over death through Christ and the way by which we are saved. How should this change our daily attitude towards the gospel and towards God himself?

Prayer:

Use this weeks prayer time to simply glorify God for who He is and what He has done. Try to avoid asking Him for anything, rather worship Him. Some of you may find it more effective to practice Joshua 6:10 & Exodus 14:14. Be silent and remind yourself of just how big your God is.
