God Will Fight for You- Fix Your Eyes on Him! (Joshua 9-12)

September 26, 2021

Icebreaker: Think about whether you see yourself as a competitive person or not. If so, what do you find you are most competitive at, and if not what is your reasoning for not being competitive? (If you are in a group setting, go around the room and share)

Read Joshua 9:1-15

  • What observations do you make about what thoughts are going through the nation of Gibeon?
  • What did Israel fail to do in their response to Gibeon? (Reference verse 14)

– Application: In what real time ways do we often respond exactly as Israel did? What is the harm in doing this?

Read Joshua 10 (and do the task below)

  • As you read, identify each of the instances where God speaks directly to or acts on behalf of his people.
  • Application: Share a time when you depended on your own strength to fight a battle and how that turned out for you. Why are we prone to depending on our own strength?

Read Joshua 11:1-9

  • What was it in this narrative that equally gave great power and instilled great fear in people?
  • Application: What are practical ways that we can depend on God’s power instead of our own?

Prayer:

During the prayer time this week, share (or journal) what your Joshua 11:4 battle is right now. Where do you feel the most outnumbered or ill prepared? Once you have shared (or journaled) spend time praying that the Lord would provide the strength needed to go into battle for His glory.
