When You Can’t Reverse a Law, Make a New One

April 25, 2021 / Esther 8:

When it comes to the story of Esther, we tend to stop reading after Haman is hanged on his own gallows. But the next few chapters give us the rest of the story. Even though Haman’s life has ended, the edict against the Jews still remains in place. There’s this annoying little provision in the law of the Medes and Persians that says it can’t be changed no matter what. The only thing more powerful and more certain than the law of the Medes and the Persians is the providence of God.

I. God sovereignly works through Mordecai’s

  • Esther lets the king know her to Mordecai.
  • The king makes Mordecai in command.

II. God sovereignly works through Esther’s passionate . (3-6)

  • Do you pray to God with
  • Never fear being before the Lord with all your feelings.
  • Many of us have to the good news and received salvation, but we don’t really care about the rest of the world.
  • There are millions in this world and thousands in this city still living under the threat of eternal death and separation from God.

III. God sovereignly works through the king’s (7-12)

  •  The king could not revoke an old edict, but he could authorize a one.
  • Anyone who messes with the Jews does so at risk to their own lives and possessions.

IV. God sovereignly works through the good news . (13-17)

  • What help is good news if no one about it?
  • Not only was there an response (15-17) all over, but there was also an evangelistic response (17).
  • Let’s not be so with our salvation that we lack compassion for those without it.
