We continually manifest one or the other. We either demonstrate the works of the flesh or the fruit of the Spirit. Notice the conjunction “but,” which begins verse 22. In sharp contrast to the works of the flesh, there is another way to live life, specifically controlled by the Spirit. I. The of Fruit (22a) Several things are called in the Word of God. This fruit refers to the best possible traits a person could have. “Works” in verse 19 is singular; “fruit” in verse 22 is plural. This is intended to be a fruit not one at a time. Fruit doesn’t come about as a result of work, it’s a result of to a Divine life-giving power source. Fruit cannot grow from the vine. II. The of Fruit (22b-23) Our Relationship with – Love, joy, and peace. Our Relationship with – Patience, gentleness, goodness. Our Relationship with – Faith, meekness, self-control. III. The of Fruit (24-25) It’s a Life It’s a known fact that crucifixion is one type of death you can’t do to yourself. We must rely on the of Jesus Christ and with His death, burial, and victory over sin. The victory is not in struggling, but in . It’s a Life The way we to walk in the Spirit is by trial and error.
