Real Joy

– Philippians 4:4-8

1. Cultivate a heart (Philippians 4:4)

    • If a follower of Jesus does not have joy, it is their own fault.

– “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith (trusting) develops perseverance.” ~ James 1:2

2. Nurture a Spirit (Philippians 4:5)

    • We are to be a gentle spirit – firm yet resolute – amid a harsh and hostile world.
    • Why be gentle? Because the Lord is near.

3. Get a attitude (Phil 4:6)

– Every child of God has peace with God through justification by faith. ~ Romans 5:1

    • But the peace from God relates to our inner world in a close walk with God.

4. Develop a mind (Philippians 4:8)

Whatever is:
True (ἀληθῆ): opposite of dishonest and unreliable things
Noble (σεμνά): what is dignified and worthy of respect
Right (δίκαια): conforms to God’s standards.
Pure (ἁγνά): what is wholesome, not mixed with moral impurity.
Lovely (προσφιλῆ): what promotes peace rather than conflict.
Admirable (εὔφημα): what is positive and constructive rather than negative and destructive.

– “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:2

God alone who is our dependency.
