Wednesday Service | God Is Good Part 3: Because he blesses | Jordan Brawner

February 24, 2022   /   Bonita Valley Community Church

Psalm 119:68 CEV

68 You are kindhearted (“good” – NIV), and you do good things, so teach me your laws.

Genesis 1:31 NIV

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Matthew 5:3

NIV

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

AMP

Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves insignificant), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!

CEV

God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!

GW

“Blessed are those who recognize they are spiritually helpless. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.”

Isaiah 14:12-14 NIV

12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”

  • The sin of Satan in part… is to think so highly of yourself, that you take anything you want and think you deserve.

James 4:10 AB

10 Humble yourselves [with an attitude of repentance and insignificance] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up, He will give you purpose].

Philippians 2:5-11 LB

Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ, who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God, but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men. And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal’s death on a cross.

Yet it was because of this that God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name which is above every other name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

[1] I position myself for blessing… when I deeply how much I need God!

[2] I position myself for blessing… when I humble myself in my attitude and my actions!

[3] I position myself for blessing… when I humble myself like Jesus did!

[1] What you feed on

[2] How you name what comes your way

[3] Who you allow into your life

Genesis 2:15-23 NIV

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
